I- Text

[1] Morocco abounds with young talents, both male and female from different fields and of various ages, who stand out thanks to their ability, courage, vision or contributions to defend their national causes and
participate in its prosperity. Yet, they suffer from a poorly structured and still amateurish artistic sector that doesn’t encourage them to prosper. Fatine Hilal Bik is one of them. She combines a beautiful voice with a sharp intellect, and overwhelming charisma that have taken her far in her career. A graduate of the National School of Business and Management (ENCG), Fatine is one of the rare artists who has worked all over the Arab world while insisting on representing her country by preserving her national language and culture. Her motto is to “remain attached to one’s principles and stay true to one’s roots and values.”

[2] Over the past ten years, Fatine has proved that she is a distinguished artist, either in singing, acting or hosting programmes. She has participated in various prominent musical festivals and concerts across the country and abroad, among which are the Moroccan Song Festival in Casablanca (2002) and Marrakech (2006 and 2008), and was awarded first prize in all three. She also participated in Jarash Festival in Jordan in 2011, in addition to the Sufi Chanting Festival in Algiers last year. Her artistic repertoire includes 11 songs. She is the first singer in Morocco to sing about divorce and the first Arab woman to take part in a sufi concert. She represented Morocco in the National Arab Youth Meeting in 2005 and delivered an impassioned speech about the Palestinian cause, pleaded for Arab unity and defended the legitimacy of the Moroccan Sahara.

[3] Fatine is planning to go on a tour to the USA next summer. She intends to achieve two goals: introduce herself to the Moroccan community there and defend the position of Morocco on the issue of the Sahara. She is also increasingly involved in charitable activities and has launched an organization that aims at providing assistance to children suffering from chronic diseases as well as those who come from underprivileged families. She firmly believes that “for the good of our country, we don’t have to always wait for the government to do things for us. As citizens, we also have to stand up, and work hard for a better and prosperous Morocco in whichever capacity we can.”

[4] “For me, artists have a noble mission to carry out in society. As well as entertaining people, they should be involved in their pains and problems, and advocate their causes. My goal is to sensitize people to the importance of safeguarding the human values that represent the backbone of our society.”
